Despite scorching conditions across the capital, a record number of runners completed the TCS London Marathon on Sunday (27 April).

A total of 56,640 runners and walkers completed the race – including three representing Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Linda, Caroline and Marcus fought through the gruelling 26.2-mile route – cheered on by crowds from start to finish – to cross the legendary finish line on The Mall.

Our fantastic group of runners London Marathon runners collectively raised around £3,500 – enough to fund an entire life-saving mission.

A huge thank you to Linda, Caroline and Marcus for supporting us and our patients at this year’s marathon.

A special mention also goes to former Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance patient, Dale who competed in the elite wheelchair (T53/T54) race.

Manchester Marathon

On the same day, roughly 200 miles further north, Madison and Archie completed the Manchester Marathon – raising almost £2,000.

Archie told us:

“The 2025 Manchester Marathon was an incredible experience and a huge personal milestone as my first ever marathon! I was inspired to take on the challenge by friends who completed London 2024, and running a marathon had always been a goal of mine.

“It felt like a great opportunity to raise some money for a local charity, so I chose the Hampshire Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, as they provide such a crucial service to the local area for those in need.

“Thanks to the kind donations of friends and family, and the match funding from my employer, Stannah, I was able to raise more than £1,000 – which is incredible!

“Training was a rewarding journey especially with the added purpose of fundraising, although I hadn’t done much hot weather training… it turned out to be very hot on race day!

“I completed the distance in 3:27:51 which I was very proud of, especially given the conditions! Completing in sub three hours was the ambitious target, but I paid the price for trying to maintain this pace with significant cramps in the last two miles.

“Overall it was an amazing experience and sense of achievement, lots of lessons learned about the marathon, and maybe I’ll be back for another one soon!”
