New emergency response vehicle added to fleet

Your support has allowed us to bolster our fleet with an additional emergency response vehicle, keeping us online and ready to respond to those patients who need our help.

Why use a car and not the helicopter?

In September 2022 we added an additional Critical Care Paramedic car, which runs alongside our helicopter crew, ensuring we can respond to more patients who need our help every day.

The other time you may see us driving on the road instead of flying overhead, could be when our aircraft is offline due to poor weather conditions or on the rare occasion there is a mechanical problem with our aircraft.

What equipment do the cars carry?

The vehicles carry the same equipment as the Air Ambulance, such as blood products, defibrillators, monitors that can record ECG’s, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and carbon dioxide levels. This means the care the patient receives on scene is the same as would be the case if the helicopter had responded.

The cars have highly trained medics onboard who effectively bring emergency hospital care to the patient – providing vital medical intervention to them sooner.

The car had to be stripped and given a blue light fit-out

Thank you

46% of all call-outs we received in 2022 we responded to in one of our emergency response vehicles. And we have so far responded to 300 calls in our cars this year. None of these calls would have been possible without your support. Thank you.

A huge thank you also goes to our colleagues at South Central Ambulance Service, who gave our new car the blue light fit out it needed to get it on the road, and Venta Global for providing the blue light kit and technology.

A special thanks also goes to long-term supporters ExxonMobil for an incredibly generous donation of £10,000 towards the fit out.
