Members of the Widows Sons Southern Chapter have presented a cheque for £13,000 to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance at the Charity’s Airbase in Thruxton.
The bikers recently completed a near 2,000-mile trip from Portsmouth to John O’Groats, stopping off to meet fellow Widows Sons in Wales, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow, before making the trip back down south to Portsmouth.
The Widows Sons have been dedicated supporters of the life-saving charity over the years and, with this most recent donation, have now raised over £31,000 since 2019.
Jon Whitaker, Head of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Freemasons, visited the Airbase with the Widows Sons to see the impact of their generous donations. They also met with the Charity’s CEO, Richard Corbett, for the first time. Richard said:
“As the new CEO of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, it was great to meet some of the Freemasons and Widows Sons who have championed the work of our Charity for so many years. Our specialist paramedics and doctors may be on the frontline, but they are only able to save lives thanks to the amazing support we receive from organisations and people such as these.”
Each emergency mission costs the Charity £2,882, and the specialist paramedics, doctors and pilots have responded to over 1,500 call-outs this year alone. The most frequent incidents are to cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions and medical incidents, such as strokes.
The Charity will be ready to respond to the most seriously ill and critically injured patients in the region throughout Christmas and New Year.
