From seas to skies – marine engineers raise thousands

Griffon Marine have raised more than £8,300 for our life-saving service. And they’re only just getting started.

The marine engineering and ship building company first announced their support for our life-saving service in December (2024) – with a goal to raise vital funds to help us deliver life-saving pre-hospital care to those most in need across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The company, who specialise in vessel design for defence and emergency services, understand the importance of our crew being able to respond rapidly to emergencies across the region.

From hosting a Brew for the Crew, to tackling skydives and 100 mile challenges, the engineers have gone above and beyond – taking fundraising in their stride.

Off to a flying start

In May, the team tackled our Miles for Missions challenge: walking, running and cycling their way to reach 100 miles.

In June, eight thrill seekers took a leap of faith in a skydive over Old Sarum in Salisbury. Later that same month, Griffon Marine proudly sponsored our very first Ride of Champions: a gruelling 100-mile cycle through the Hampshire and Isle of Wight countryside.

CPR Skills for Life

In May, 18 members of the team took part in our life-saving programme, CPR Skills for Life, hosted by Supporter Engagement Officer, Natalie Russell and Volunteering Manager, Kirsty Davies.

Our CPR sessions aim to boost the confidence of those in our community to begin basic life support if they see someone collapse. The team at Griffon Marine learnt how to assess a patient, call for help, perform effective chest compressions and use a defibrillator.

Our community keep us flying

So far this year, our Critical Care Team have responded to 1,360 emergency missions across the region. As a charity, we rely entirely on the generous support from individuals and organisations in our community – raising vital funds and awareness of our service to ensure we can continue flying and saving lives.

Just six months into our partnership, Griffon Marine have raised an incredible £8,314 – enough to fund two future life-saving missions.

Selina Kefford, Marketing Operations Administrator at Griffon Marine, said:

“We have really enjoyed supporting Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a brilliant charity who have an incredible team behind them. The ‘Miles for Missions’ walking challenge was a great opportunity to bring the team together, and we received some really positive feedback, with ideas for next year’s challenge!

“More recently, a group of us took on the skydive challenge, with everyone saying it was an experience they will never forget and knowing it was all for a such good cause made it even more rewarding.”

“We were also thrilled to support the very first Ride of Champions race event. As a Portsmouth-based company working closely with Hovertravel on the Island, it was a fantastic opportunity to champion a local event.”

Natalie Russell, Supporter Engagement Officer at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, said:

“Griffon Marine have brought the energy from day one, whether they’re sporting festive jumpers or jumpsuits. Every challenge they accept helps the Critical Care Team respond to a life-threatening emergency. We are honoured to be their charity partner and thank them for their support.”
