Dash in the Dark returns to Southampton and the Isle of Wight

Our popular night-time, Dash in the Dark, 5K is back – join us on Southampton Common or at Seaclose Park, Newport, and help us be there for those who need us.

Almost 1,200 people joined us across our Southampton and Isle of Wight events last year. And, since the first Dash in 2019, our incredible supporters have raised more than £150,000 – enough to fund 45 life-saving missions.

One of those participants is Gilly Harland who suffered a fractured skull and shoulder when she was involved in a road traffic collision on Newport Road in October 2023.

She was airlifted from St Mary’s Hospital to University Hospital Southampton where she underwent an operation to aid in her recovery.

Gilly said:

“The Air Ambulance team not only airlifted me to University Hospital Southampton for vital care that I couldn’t get at St Mary’s, but they have offered aftercare to aid in my recovery.

“I’m forever grateful for them and have supported them ever since, through my own fundraisers, the Star Jump Challenge and now Dash in the Dark.

“I’m looking forward to lining up with hundreds of supporters on the night to raise money and awareness for the charity that helped me and continues to help thousands of others.”

Participants of the Southampton event include Dean and Logan-James who are running in support of their son and brother, Tyler Dodsworth, who sustained critical injuries when he was hit by a car outside his school in Tidworth in 2023.

Dean said:

“My son is very lucky to be here. We are so grateful for the fast response of the Air Ambulance and the team’s great efforts to make sure my son was stable enough to be flown to hospital. Without them, I hate to write, it would have been a totally different outcome. We owe them a lot, and I will continue to support and fundraise for them at every chance I get.”
