Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere at anytime. Would you know what to do?
Only 51% of people in the UK say they would be able to perform CPR on a loved one. That’s why we’ve trained a team of dedicated volunteers to deliver our ‘CPR Skills for Life’ sessions to people in our community. And we’re not stopping there.
So far, we have delivered sessions to more than 500 people across our region. Whether we’re in schools or workplaces, community clubs or groups, our team of volunteers are ensuring that life-saving skills and knowledge reach as many people as possible.
Our CPR Skills for Life sessions are completely free of charge and give you the confidence to perform effective CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) – in just one hour.
Why CPR Training Matters
Around 80% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home, with fewer than 1 in 10 people surviving. And for every minute that someone is in cardiac arrest without receiving CPR and having a defibrillator used on them, their chance of survival decreases by 10%.
Since September, we’ve trained more than 50 volunteers to help us bring our CPR programme to life.
Tim Moxey has been delivering CPR training to a wide range of students for more than 30 years. He recently signed up to become one of our volunteers.
Tim said:
“80% of cardiac arrests happen outside of a hospital. I want to have a big impact and train more people to be ready to potentially save a life. It is a privilege to now be part of such a dedicated and professional team, doing amazing work in our region for local people. I would encourage everyone to become confident in performing CPR as a life skill, to be able to potentially save someone with just two hands.”
Karen has been volunteering for our charity since 2023. Recently, she’s been getting hands on delivering CPR sessions to businesses, groups clubs across the region.
Karen told us:
“Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance gives people the best chance of survival and recovery in the worst of situations, so learning CPR through these sessions supports the amazing work that the team does every day. Many workplaces, public buildings and spaces have AEDs but not everyone knows how, or has the confidence, to use them. Everyone has the ability to potentially save a life – to be able to teach this to others is a privilege.”
