On 3rd July 2014, aged 15, James Adie was crossing the Eastern Road in Portsmouth and was hit by a motorcyclist at 60 mph. Two Air Ambulances attended at the scene, and with a Glasgow Coma Score of 3 he was put into an induced coma and taken to Southampton Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. He sustained a broken femur, pelvis and hand plus a traumatic brain injury.
The road to recovery for James has been long and, at times, very tough. James took his A Levels this summer and started at University in September. However, without the Air Ambulance none of this would have been possible.
In July this year, as their way of saying ‘thank you’, James and his father decided to cycle across Great Britain in order to raise money for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Their journey began on July 3rd, three years to the day since we helped save his life, and together they have raised over £2,600.
