Local bikers raise more than £2,000 in memory of loved ones.
In 2022, tragically there were 350 motorcycle fatalities across Great Britain – one of those was 27-year old Nathan Stevens.
Nathan’s dad, John, told us:
“On Wednesday 15 June 2022 I lost my son and best friend.
“Nathan was killed in a motorcycle accident just before his 28th birthday. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended the scene but he was killed instantly and there was nothing they could do.
“It’s been a really hard three years without him, and I never realised how grief can hurt so much. But one thing I wanted was to keep his memory alive.”
To keep his memory alive, John wanted to organise something special:
“I have now met many people going through the same pain of losing someone and they all wanted to talk about that special person. So a year ago I had the idea of organising a motorcycle ride for people who have lost a loved one and who wanted to ride in their memory. ‘Ride to Remember’ was created.”
A special day
After 12 months of planning, on a sunny Sunday morning in June, John and his family were joined by more than 200 bikers for a ‘Ride to Remember’ across the Hampshire countryside.
The heartwarming moment saw riders coming together to support the families of those lost through motorbiking and celebrating their memory.
The ride, which began at Winchester Auto Barn and culminated with an impressive entrance to the Thruxton Aerodrome, has so far raised more than £2,000.
This incredible amount will help our Critical Care Team continue responding to the most seriously ill and injured people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Emma Stileman, Supporter Engagement Officer at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, said:
“It was a pleasure to support John and his family in this poignant ride out. It was both incredible and emotional to see the support from the biker community, friends and family who made the day such a success.”
Thank you so much to John, his family and all of the riders on the day for their dedication in supporting our life-saving service. You truly make a difference to the lives of those in our region.
