Job title: Consultant in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine.
Chris joined HIOWAA in 2014 and also works for University Hospital Southampton as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine.
Chris said: “After completing my training in Emergency Medicine I knew that Air Ambulance work was something I wanted to do. Whether the patient is at the road side or in the hospital I am in a unique position to use the skills I have learnt to give patients the best possible care”. Prior to working at HIOWAA, Chris worked for the rescue helicopter in Sydney, Australia and for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance.
Chris is part of the training team at HIOWAA and helps to look after our doctors in training, keeping an eye on their progress and mentoring them as required and takes a keen interest in helping to develop systems that benefit patient care.
His proudest moments working for HIOWAA are the patient stories. “Every time I hear of a life saved or time when we made a difference makes me feel incredibly proud of the team”.
“The standout moments, for me, are the little moments. Landing at Thruxton after a long day with a beautiful sunset, or taking off in a snow covered field. Times that reinforce what a privileged position we have, working for an Air Ambulance. It’s a tremendous responsibility, one which I take very seriously.”
Outside of work, my family and cycling keep me on my toes and fit!
My top tip: Always tuck your shoelaces in, you never know when they might get snagged! A lesson I learnt when my boot laces became stuck during helicopter underwater escape training in Sydney.
