HIOWAA Volunteer presented with prestigious award.
Friday 13th July
On Thursday 12th July, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) Chairman of Trustees, Sir John Day, presented longstanding volunteer Dave Ford, with the prestigious Certificate of Appreciation.
Dave lives in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight and first began volunteering for the Charity more than 10 years ago.
He often helps at Charity events, collecting pots and transporting HIOWAA merchandise from the mainland to the Island.
Volunteering Team Leader, Kirsty Davies, said:
“Dave is one of our longest serving volunteers and his dedication to the Charity is admirable. Dave is always enthusiastic in all that he does for HIOWAA and his passion to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives really shows. Thank you, Dave.”
Staff laid on a surprise tea party at the Charity offices where he was presented with his certificate.
Feeling overwhelmed but happy with his award, Dave told us:
“It was a big shock! I wasn’t expecting it at all. When I walked into the room and everyone shouted “surprise”, I was lost for words. The certificate is up on our wall at home already. All my friends and family are happy for me. There are not many days I’m not doing something for HIOWAA. I do it because we need the Air Ambulance on the Island. I want to keep it flying. It’s a lifeline for us Islanders.”
HIOWAA currently has 165 volunteers, but they would welcome more support. Contact Kirsty Davies on 02380 743516 to find out how you can make a difference.
