Learning Saves Lives: young people across the region raise over £3,000
What do David Attenborough, a suffragette and a pilot all have in common?
They all made an appearance at one of our Dress Like a Hero Days, of course!
Since the launch of Learning Saves Lives in October 2019, 12 schools and youth groups across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have taken part in activities and dress up days to raise money for your Air Ambulance; with a further 36 planning their day to join in the fun.
The Education Team here at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) have been busy visiting schools in our region, teaching young people about the lifesaving work of our HIOWAA heroes.
These amazing young people have so far raised £3,154, through dress up days, nativity plays and more. Even better, schools have been nominating HIOWAA as their Charity of the Year.
Coming up in June 2020, five schools from the Holy Family Live Federation have joined forces to co-ordinate a mass non-uniform day, with all the proceeds going to help keeping us flying and saving lives.
Stamshaw Junior School Teacher, Amanda Bushell, said:
“As a school, we took part in an aspirations week and the children dressed as their future selves. We chose to sponsor HIOWAA as part of this week as the job and service they provide is outstanding and saves so many lives, that we felt that in itself was inspirational.”
Education Programme Manager, Joanna Hennessy, said:
“We have been so pleased with how many schools and groups have chosen to support our charity through this campaign. We have loved visiting all the schools who have introduced fundraising as a way to inspire learning and raise aspirations. Something as fun as a dress-up day or non-uniform day can make a huge impact to a local charity like ours. Imagine if all the schools in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight dedicated one day out of the academic year to support our local air ambulance!”
