HIOWAA at the 2018 RideLondon
Monday 30th July
It was a damp and grey day for this years Ride-London, but the weather wasn’t enough to deter thousands of keen cyclists on Sunday morning. (29th July).
Now in it’s sixth year, Ride-London 2018 saw 26,720 participants finish the 100-mile and 46-mile routes from London to Surrey.
14 of those were pedalling for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). So far, they have raised an incredible £2,000.
HIOWAA Community Engagement Manager, Ian Browning, took part in the event on a tandem with HIOWAA Equipment Officer, Rolf Kitching.
The tandem was kindly donated to us for the day from former patient, Dr Risto Talas. Risto was involved in a road traffic collision in January 2017. Read his story to find out how HIOWAA provided critical life-saving treatment in his hour of need – www.hiowaa.org/patients-stories/ristos-story
Speaking of the RideLondon challenge, Ian said:
“It was such a wonderful atmosphere, despite the rain. So many people still came out to support the riders – it was wonderful to see. The ride was particularly hard because of the headwind but I’m pleased to say that all our riders completed and now have a shiny medal for their incredible efforts. The money they have raised will help to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives – thank you to every single one of you!”
